業務概要

「ぽ」は2016年に東京で設立されたデザイン全般におけるシンクタンクである。建築設計とコンピュータプログラミングのバックグラウンドを持つ創業者らが、それぞれの専門性を掛け合わせて、新奇的なデザインの要求に、科学的に応えることを目指している。

Three Themes on Recent Operations.

1. Performance-based design
   Values scientifically performance-based design and design methods rather than ambiguous or meaningless design. Respect methods for quantitatively evaluating the quality of a design by using engineering simulations and other techniques to verify the performance of the design object.

2. Iterative computation and generative design
   Automate and optimise iterative calculations and their evaluation using parametric modelling, proprietary algorithms, etc. The product is automated and allows designers to identify design trends analytically and, in some cases, derive shapes humans would not have thought of.

3. Towards artificial intelligence-assisted design
   Efficiently select better individuals from an infinite number of design candidates. Different degrees of intelligence, such as selection, prediction, and emergence, exist, but there is a shift towards designing using higher levels of intelligence.

業務に関するテーゼ３つ

1. 性能ベースのデザイン
   曖昧さや、慣例など意味のないデザインではなく科学的に性能を発揮できるデザイン、およびデザイン手法を尊重する。工学的なシミュレーション等を用いて、設計物の性能を検証しながら定量的にデザインの良しあしを評価します。

2.  繰り返し計算と、ジェネレイティブデザイン
   パラメトリックモデリングや独自アルゴリズムなどを駆使して、反復計算とその評価を自動化し最適化を行う。その実、この手法の恩恵は自動化だけでなく、設計者が設計の傾向を分析的にとらえることを促し、場合によっては人間には思いつかないようなアイデアに到達することもある。

3. 人工知能を援用したデザインへ向けて
   前出のような自動化及び最適化のフローは無限にあるデザインの候補から、効率的によりよい個体を選び出す仕組みである。しかし近年の機械知能の発展に寄り添いながら、アルゴリズムや手法の賢さをまた他の場面にも適用できるよう研究を続けている。
